Start Your Own Community Garden Workshop
(click on picture to download brochure - pdf file)

Community gardens beautify the neighborhood and provide a safe, recreational green space in which to relax and enjoy being outdoors.  Individual gardeners get a chance to grow some of their own vegetables, herbs, and fruits, and, the process of doing so, they learn instrumental gardening skills. Interacting with one another, gardeners gain a sense of community. Children get an opportunity to see where their food comes from, learn how things grow, how to care for plants and gain a sense of achievement in growing their own food.  In many cases, local service groups use the food produced in their community garden to assist a local food bank or family assistance center. Join Ginny Roberts, Urban Garden Coordinator for the Marion County Purdue Extension Service, as she discusses key concepts to starting your own community garden.
