As the demand for locally grown food becomes increasingly widespread, we are seeing an increase in the number of citizens entering the "locally grown/locally sold" market.  And, as with most new businesses, the first several years can be hard for these new farmers to establish a good reputation and an even better clientele.

In a recent survey given to residents of Lawrence, Orange, Jackson, and Washington Counties, "Alternative Agricultural Opportunities" was listed as one of the top three choices the community feels needs to be improved upon.  White River RC&D and Purdue Extension are assisting in improving alternative agricultural opportunities in our area by helping our new (and old) alternative ag businesses flourish in Southern Indiana.

Through this collaborated effort, we would like to bring together agricultural entrepreneurs from the four county area to develop a tight-knit network of farmers who can help each other build their businesses by discussing important topics relating to alternative agriculture through annual field days, workshops and seminars and creating an outreach campaign to get the word out about our incredible local sources.
